UKHRUL, Jul 18 : Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla witnessed the lush greenery of Mount Wuya Kachui adorned with pinkish Wuyawon flowers blooming in July as he attended the 7th Shingcha Wuyawon Festival 2025 at Shingcha village in Kamjong district today.
The three-day festival is being celebrated under the theme "Grow with Nature". It was inaugurated yesterday by Napolean Rongmei, DFO, Kamjong.
Shingcha villagers and the organising committee of Shingcha Wuyawon Festival accorded a warm welcome to the Governor who was accompanied by his spouse Jyoti Bhalla on his maiden visit to Kamjong district.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Bhalla underscored the tourism potential of Kamjong district while adding that people should join hands to promote the festival.
He suggested using the Wuyawon festival as a way to promote a tourism circuit in the region and further proposed using the natural beauty of the neighbouring areas and villages such as waterfalls and beautiful land topography for this purpose.
The Governor also appreciated the sustained efforts of Shingcha villagers to popularise the Wuyawon flower by consistently organising the festival dedicated to it.
Phungyar MLA Leishiyo Keishing announced that the 8th edition of Wuyawon Festival will be sponsored by the Eastern Border Area Development Authority (EBADA), which will add grandeur and more events to the festival.
Dwelling on human attachment to nature, he stressed the importance of having uniform land laws for peaceful co-existence.
Main highlights of the festival's 2nd day include folk songs, dances, pork eating competition, bamboo pole climbing and folk tale narration followed by  an evening bonfire.
Miss Shirui Lily 2025 Esme Singh Shaiza and 1st Runner-Up Disti Athokpam attended as ambassadors of the 7th edition of Shingcha Wuyawon festival.
Chairman of Tangkhul organisations Wungpam LS, Epchan Khapai, Augustine Kashung and TNAL president Kashung Tennyson delivered speeches urging Shingcha villagers to safeguard the Wuyawon flower by preserving its habitat.
Later, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla trekked Mount Wuya Kachui to get a picturesque view of the hill slope.
Subsequently, Governor Bhalla chaired a review meeting at the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Kamjong. The meeting was attended by MLA Leishiyo Keishing, Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and other District Level Officers, according to a statement from the Governor's Secretariat.
Key areas of district administration were thoroughly reviewed during the meeting, including education, healthcare, road connectivity, transportation, power and water supply, network connectivity, industries, forest management, food distribution and other essential services.
District officials briefed the Governor on various pressing challenges faced by the region and sought his intervention for their resolution.
After a detailed and constructive discussion, the Governor directed the officials to continue their dedicated efforts and mentioned that the Government would provide all possible support to address the concerns.
Various Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) from the district met the Governor and submitted memoranda, highlighting key local concerns and developmental needs. The Governor assured them that their issues would be carefully examined and conveyed to the appropriate departments for necessary action.
He also inspected the newly constructed Mini Secretariat building in Kamjong.
According to his itinerary, the Governor will halt for the night at 8th AR Kamjong Headquarters today and depart for Imphal tomorrow at around 11.15 am from Shangshak to Raj Bhavan, Imphal.
