Seven including Advocate use fake voter IDs to withdraw insurance money, arrested

Imphal, Jul 19: A team of Lamphel police arrested seven persons, including an Advocate, for allegedly using fake voter identity cards to withdraw compensation amount from the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, Manipur.
Four accused persons identified as Md Abdul Samad (54), his younger brother Md Basirur Rahaman (53), s/o (L) Hamitulla of Lilong Haoreibi Tural Ahanbi, Jamila Begum (38), w/o Md Abdul Baker of Keirao Makting Mayai Leikai and Advocate Wahidur Rahman (51),  s/o (L) Md Jalaluddin of Lilong Awang Leikai were arrested on July 16 in connection with the case after they were handed over to Lamphel police station by Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, Manipur to verify their voter identity cards.
 Three more persons Wahengbam Bremjit (31), s/o (L) Lukhoi of Kiyamgei Mamang Leikai (a computer operator), RK Ratan (58), s/o (L) Dolansana of Kakwa Lilando Lampak (owner of RK Printing Press) and Md Rafijuddin (51), s/o Md Shalimuddin Shah of Keirao Makthing Awang Leikai (Proprietor of  AD Computer  Shop)  were arrested on July 17 in connection with the case for their alleged involvement in printing the fake voter ID cards.
All seven of them have been remanded to police custody till July 23.
The Peshkar of the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal submitted a written complaint stating that the accused persons filed a claim application on November 14, 2019 seeking compensation, following which the Presiding Officer of the Tribunal awarded them Rs 1,50,000 each on December 14 last year.
However, during the procedure for disbursement of the compensation amount, their voter identity cards were suspected to be fake and further investigation revealed that the Advocate, Wahidur Rahman, had forged the voter ID cards using passport photos of the accused persons.
The accused persons were produced before the Duty Magistrate Imphal West on July 17 and the Court remanded them to police custody till July 23.
