Anti-drug poster campaign, awareness programmes held

IMPHAL, Jul 19 : As part of its ongoing effort to curb the abuse of drugs and alcohol, Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) organised an awareness programme at Khongman Zone-V Community Hall, Imphal East district today.
The programme was held on the theme, “Impact of drug abuse on society and the public's role in checking the rampant use of drugs”.
The programme was graced by CADA president Hiyam Priyokumar, Social Workers’ Congress Khongman president Athokpam Birendra, Meeyamgi Yaipha Nupi Lup Khongman Zone-IV/V president Puyam Leibakleima and CADA Imphal East Committee vice president Shambanduram Inaotombi as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion as a resource person, CADA secretary general Takhellambam Geetchandra said that CADA has been conducting awareness campaigns to educate the people about the menace caused by the widespread use of drugs and other intoxicants.
Expressing concern over the increasing cases of drug abuse in the State, he called for the public's support in the fight against drug abuse to bring forth a healthy and developed society.
Similarly, a poster campaign against the use/ sale of alcohol and other drugs was conducted yesterday in Konthoujam Nongaobung Leikai, Konthoujam Mayai Leikai and Konthoujam Awang Leikai.
The campaign was jointly organised by CADA, Konthoujam Kangjeibung Mapal Chaokhat Kongthang Lup, Konthoujam Youth Union Club, Kangjeibung Mapal and Patsoi Police Station.
The campaign was participated by Konthoujam Kangjeibung Mapal Chaokhat Kongthang Lup president Konthoujam Angoubi, Konthoujam Youth Union Club president Kayenpaibam Budhachandra, and CADA secretary women affairs Indira Leima Konthoujam among others.
Moreover, as part of the drug-use prevention and academic campaigns undertaken by the Manipur Students’ Federation (MSF) and Pangal Students’ Organisation (PSO) under the themes “Eikhoi Mayai Kaba Drug Thadoklashi” and “Khunai Mashak Khangnaba Lairik Ningthina Tamsi”, an awareness programme was held today at Prim Rose English School in Khabeisoi, Imphal East district.
The programme was graced by dignitaries, including Dr Naorem Sanatomba, Assistant Professor, Department of Manipuri, Manipur University; Hijam Roshan, president, MSF; Farid Bogiamayum, president, PSO; Md Rafi, Principal, Prim Rose English School; and Hirom Laxman, Headmaster, Prim Rose English School.
MSF general secretary Sundar Khuman was also present at the event.
During the programme, speakers spoke at length on the need for education and spreading awareness about the political identity, socio-economic, history and environment of Manipur to foster a sense of patriotism among the people.
They elaborated on the “Eikhoi Lairik Ningthina Tamsi” academic campaign which aims to strengthen the education systems and address issues related to teachers and students; and the “Eikhoi Mayai Kaba Drug Thadoklashi” campaign which was launched to save the youth of Manipur from drugs.
They also called for collective effort in tackling communal tension and promoting peaceful coexistence among the different communities residing in the State since ages.
