Rotary Club of Imphal organises tree plantation drive

IMPHAL, Jul 19 : Rotary Club of Imphal organised a tree plantation drive today at Sajiwa Central Jail, Khabeisoi on the theme, “Let’s Save Our Planet”.
The drive was conducted under the guidance of Syed Abdul Samad, Superintendent of Police, was participated by Khaba Irengbam, AC; Kishorjit Singh, DSP along with staff of Sajiwa Central Jail and members of the club.
As per a release issued by Rotary Club of Imphal, the plantation drive was dedicated to Late Surinder Singh Kaiser, an ardent supporter of environmental protection and its sustainability.
At the event, Dr Digel Singh, president of Rotary Club of Imphal said that the club has been planting trees across the State every year to save mother Earth under a community service project of the club.
He asserted that tree plantation is crucial for maintaining a healthy environment, mitigating climate change, and supporting biodiversity.
“Planting trees helps reduce air pollution, conserve water, and provides habitats for countless species. It is a vital practice for ensuring a sustainable future for all living beings”, he added.
About 105 fruit bearing trees were planted during the drive.
