IMPHAL, Jul 19: The Lecturers’ Association Manipur 2018 Batch has decided to launch a pen-down strike from July 21 in protest against the Government’s failure to complete their regularization process.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, Lecturers’ Association Manipur 2018 Batch general secretary Malemnganbi Chanu said that 603 contract Lecturers were appointed fro Government Higher Secondary Schools in 2019 and they were regularized by a Cabinet decision adopted on January 8, 2022.
As per the regularization order, the 603 Lecturers must be given regular salary with effect from April 2023.
However, the regularization process remains incomplete even after three years and as a result, they have not been getting regular salary, Malemngabi said.
Considering the situation of the State, the Lecturers have been enduring all the difficulties without resorting to any protest in the interest of students, she said.
Moreover, even the contract salary is given quite irregularly thereby compounding the woes of the Lecturers.
On account of the large scale violence witnessed in the State, many of the Lecturers are living in relief camps. Yet, they are doing their duty diligently, she said.
The Lecturers will resort to pen-down strike from July 21 to 26 in protest against the inordinate delay in completing the regularization process.
If the authorities concerned do not give a concrete assurance to complete the pending regularization process at the earliest, the Lecturers are fully prepared to launch different modes of agitation, she said.
