The Becoming of the Soul

Just as a phoenix rises from its ashes,
Like the wild fire that makes place for the new green.
Rises, out of yore a strength-learned of experience
Not dithered nor distracted, still as the moon.
But every so often, the flesh as weak it is
And the human soul out of its ignorance, moans
For the immoral acts done of new freedom
That lifted the spirit but doomed the soul.
But oh, of the great gifts to mankind
Greatest is the light of Hope. Unmistaken
And firm of belief, it will lead the doomed
To new ways of light, the soul had not taken.
And though the path be strewn with thorn and shadow,
And silence scream where joy once sang so clear,
The soul that dares to walk with wounded steps
Will find in pain a truth once masked by fear.
For light not only dwells in skies above,
But flickers deep within the fractured core.
And what was broken learns to shape its form—
More whole than what the heart had known before.
