Thoubal, Jul 19: Setting a benchmark for excellence in both sports and academics, Jeet Kune-Do (JKD) player Moirangthem Linthoi Chanu from Yairipok has secured 3rd position in the Final Year BA Exam 2025 (Economics Honours) conducted by North Eastern Hill University (NEHU).
Placing 3rd in NEHU's overall merit list, the student of St Anthony's College, Shillong has also bagged many national and international medals/awards in her sports career as a JKD practitioner.
Hailing from Yairipok Bishnunaha Mayai Leikai, Linthoi is the only daughter of Jeet Kune-Do Association of Manipur secretary and coach Dr Moirangthem Ibomcha and his wife M Bina Leima. She has two older brothers.
Previously, she passed Class X (87%) from Memorial Model Academy, Yairipok and Class XII (89.4 %) from Enlighten Knowledge Higher Secondary School.
Speaking to this correspondent, Linthoi conveyed her desire to continue her studies and attempt the UPSC exam to work in public service. Becoming a teacher and moulding the next generation is another profession that she is considering.
Responding to a question about balancing her sports and academic career, Linthoi answered that during exams, JKD takes a backseat for a short period. However, it is manageable to make time for both.
Her parents also expressed joy and pride at their daughter's latest achievement.
In the international arena, she bagged gold medals in the Asian Jeet Kune Do Championship, 2016, Gold World Games 2017, 1st World Jeet Kune Do Championship 2018, International Jeet Kune Do Championship 2022 and the 2nd World Jeet Kune Do Championship 2023. While in the national stage she secured the gold in National Jeet Kune Do Championship, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021-22, 63rd National School Games 2017-18, National Jeet Kune Do Championship, 2018, 8th Federation Cup Jeet Kune Do Championship 2023 and the 10th National Jeet Kune Do Championship 2024.
The promising young girl has also bagged many accolades in Karate and Wushu.
