IMPHAL, Jul 20: Aggrieved by the alleged offensive and demeaning words used by the coordinator of Khurkhul Mandap Yumpham relief camp, the IDPs staying in the relief camp staged a protest demonstration in front of the Imphal West Deputy Commissioner’s office from last night till early morning today.
The IDPs demanded the DC to let them go back to their homes if they must endure such humiliating treatment at the relief camp.
One Malemnganba, an IDP staying at the relief camp, said that they have been living under wretched conditions in the relief camp for over two years since the violent crisis broke out on May 3, 2023.
It is a matter of grave concern that the coordinator used highly offensive and abusive words against the IDPs who have been suffering extreme misery, Malemnganba said.
“We are protesting in front of the DC office to let us go home if we must be subjected to such humiliating treatment”, he said.
The protesting IDPs and officials of Imphal West DC talked over the matter this morning and the officials assured that they would work to bring a solution to the matter at the earliest.
Notwithstanding the Government officials’ assurance, the IDPs urged the Government to take up concrete measures considering the plight of the IDPs so that they can go back to their homes, Melemnganba said. Later, the IDPs went back to the Khurkhul Mandap relief camp.
