32 MLAs poised to stake claim for Govt formation

IMPHAL, Jul 20: As many as 32 MLAs of BJP and NDA partners are poised to stake claim to form a popular Government  in case the Central Government does not take up concrete steps to install a popular Government in the State in place of the existing President's Rule which came into force on February 13.
The MLAs are determined to go to the Raj Bhavan and stake claim to form a popular Govt if the Centre does not take up concrete steps to install a popular Govt before the end of the Parliament session which starts on Monday.
Notably, the monsoon session of the Parliament will continue till August 21.
Some of the MLAs told The Sangai Express that they are confident the Central will give nod to formation of a popular Government in Manipur.
Even if the Centre does not give the green signal, BJP and the NDA partners will submit a list of 32 MLAs to the Governor and stake claim to form a popular Govt, said the MLAs.
They said that they would wait for some days for the Centre’s approval to form a popular Government.
If no green signal is received from the Centre within the coming days, the MLAs will go to the Raj Bhavan and stake claim to form a popular Govt, the MLAs said adding “We are prepared to make this move”.
The MLAs poised to stake claim to form a popular Government include legislators from BJP, NPP, NPF, JD(U) and Independent MLAs belonging to both the hills and the valley.
On the other hand, the businesses listed for the first day of the Parliament’s monsoon session include presentation  of a resolution seeking approval of extension of President’s Rule imposed in Manipur through a proclamation issued by the President of India on February 13, 2025 under Article 356(1) of the  Constitution of India, according to a press release issued by PIB.
The business list includes discussion and voting on Demands for Grants (Manipur) for the year 2025-26 and introduction, consideration and passing/return of the related Appropriation Bill The Manipur GST (Amendment) Bill 2025 (to replace an Ordinance) may also be tabled tomorrow.
