IMPHAL, Jul 20: Former rebel leader RK Sanayaima has categorically stated that all the outsiders who came from neighbouring countries and other States of India must be first identified and sent back to their native places before any census operation and delimitation process is initiated.
If the illegal immigrants and the outsiders are coun-ted as citizens of Manipur in the proposed census operation, all the indigenous co- mmunities of Manipur will be reduced to minorities, he said. RK Sanayaima was speaking at a patriotic poetry recitation competition held today at Singjamei Kakwa Laishram Selungba Leikai KYC community hall under the aegis of the Patriots Day Observance Committee, Manipur.
He said that people will welcome the census operation as well as delimitation only after all immigrants and outsiders are identified.
People cannot be expected to accept any faulty policy or programme initiated by the Government authorities, he added.
The absence of a popular Government in the State is an unmistakable indication of the abject failure of democracy in the State, Sanayaima said.
He categorically stated that the MLAs as well as the voters must be held accountable for the crumbling of democracy in Manipur.
The current sorry state of affairs is a direct result of the voters’ failure to elect competent and qualified candidates at the time of elections, he said.
He added that democracy is being squeezed in India too.
There will be meaningful democracy only when the MLAs truly represent the people’s voice, he said.
Patriots Day Observance Committee Manipur vice president W Amuchou Meitei said that the students’ patriotic poetry recitation competition was being organised in honour of those brave forefathers who protected the integrity and boundary of Manipur with their sweat and blood.
He said that prizes of the poetry recitation will be distributed on August 13.
