Lions Club of Imphal reaches out to destitute children

IMPHAL, Jul 20 : Lions Club of Imphal, Lions International District-322D has reached out to the children staying at Destitute Children Home, Tera Keithel.
Today, members of Lions Club of Imphal distributed steel water bottles to 40 boys staying at the Destitute Children Home under the “One District One Activity of Lions” branding activity of the club.
As per a release issued by Lions Club of Imphal, food items such as rice, potato, onion, dal, milk, sugar, ngari, etc were also provided to the Destitute Children Home.
At the event, Lions Club of Imphal president Manas Maisnam said that the steel bottles were distributed to replace plastic bottles and reduce dependency on plastic.  
Prof W Gopimohan, past district governor, enlightened gathering on the life and struggle of Helen Keller and her impact on Lions Club.
He said that during the 9th International Convention of Lions Club held in Ohio, USA in June 1925, Helen Keller made a fervent appeal to members of Lions Clubs across the world to be the “Knights of the Blind” in the fight against blindness.
Prof Gopimohan continued that since 1990, “SightFirst” funds have allowed Lions, health care providers and partner organisations around the world to fight the major causes of preventable and reversible blindness, impacting more than 544 million people.
Destitute Children Home’s administrator Ayekpam Wanglel Meetei appreciated the Lions Club of Imphal for the assistance and expressed hope that the club will continue to support the children.
Senior members of Lions Club of Imphal and officials of the Children Home were also present at the event.
