IMPHAL, Jul 20 : Several organizations have condoled the demise of Potsangbam Sonamani, a retired IPS officer and socio-political commentator.
A resident of Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai,  Sonamani is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son.
He breathed his last at SHIJA Hospital the previous evening.
Cancer Survivors of Manipur mourns
Cancer Survivors of Manipur (CaSoM), a group of men and women, who are cancer patients, still undergoing necessary treatment and are surviving have deeply condoled the demise of Sonami. A light who gave immense courage to all cancer survivors with his positive take on life is a message that will be forever cherished, said CaSoM.
His legacy will live on, says COCOMI
The Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), in its message, stated that his demise has left an irreparable void for the people of Manipur.
Saying that the retired IPS officer had served the people of Nagaland significantly during his service, the Committee continued that Sonamani had taken part in many discussion programmes as a political commentator and had given valuable insights on different issues pertaining to Manipur after his retirement.
COCOMI, while sharing the pain of the bereaved family, said that the people of Manipur will cherish his vision for the State.
May his soul rest in peace : CoPMeV
The Committee on Protection of Meetei Victims' Moreh (CoPMeV) stated that Sonamani had worked for the welfare of people displaced by the Manipur crisis, and his passing has left an irreparable void. Conveying its condolences, CoPMeV prayed for the departed soul to rest in Manipur.
'A precious son of Manipur'
The National Identity Protection Council (NIPCO) described Sonamani as a precious son of Manipur, saying he had imparted valuable knowledge to the people of Manipur by participating in various events and discussion programmes.
Despite serving in another State, Sonamani demonstrated his love for Manipur by speaking out during times of crisis, NIPCO said and added that the retired IPS officer was widely respected wherever he was posted, earning numerous awards for his dedication to service.
NIPCO stated that Sonamani remained actively engaged even after retirement, collaborating with various organizations for Manipur's cause, and advocated for peaceful coexistence among different communities.
STDCM remembers Sonamani
The Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee, Manipur (STDCM) remembered Sonamani as a pivotal figure in the movement for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for Meitei/Meetei, while also actively engaging with other State issues.
The STDCM held a condolence meeting at Sangakpham Bazar, observing two minutes of silence to honour his legacy.
FOCS mourns
The Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur, while extending its condolences, stated that Sonamani had worked tirelessly to unite the Manipuri diaspora by collaborating with various civil society organisations.
The Federation also noted that the retired IPS officer was known for offering constructive suggestions in areas where Manipur lagged behind to bring about positive changes.
FOCS held a condolence meeting at its office near the Imphal War Cemetery today and shared the grief of the bereaved family. Several other organisations viz Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA), Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN), Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA), All Manipur Meitei Pangal  Development Organisation (AMMDO), Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) and World Meetei Council (WMC), Jiribam also extended their condolences.
