IMPHAL, Jul 20 : Union Taekwondo Academy (UTA) successfully stretched their uninterrupted overall team title streak as they amassed 5362 points off 29 gold, 24 silver and 27 bronze medal in the 18th Governor’s Taekwondo Cup at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium that formally came to a close today.
Notably, UTA have been on top of the competition right from the inaugural edition.
Pakhangba Taekwondo Academy (PTA) in the meantime finished team runners up on 1597 points from 8 gold, 5 silver and 17 bronze medals. Meanwhile, Taekwondo Training School Khangabok finished second runners up on 1310 points off 7 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze medals.
The closing function of the championship was attended by Thokchom Satyabrata, Speaker Manipur Legislative Assembly; Lourembam Rameshwor, MLA Keirao AC; Kongkham Robindro, MLA Mayang Imphal AC; Sheikh Noorul Hassan, MLA, Kshetrigao AC and Achab Uddin, MLA Jiribam AC as the presidium members who also led in distributing prizes to the meritorious teams.
Last Day Highlight
The final day of the championship saw Ningombam Gayatri of UTA securing sub-junior girls’ U-14 kg category gold medal as Thoudam Lamnganbi of PTA beat Huidrom Heerel of IMRTA for the U-16 kg category title.
The U-18 kg category title went to RK Nongleima of UTA who defeated TourangbamValerie of LFC as Yumnam Yaitaodanbi of UST settled for the bronze medal.
Thounaojam Urbi of TTS Singjamei meanwhile claimed the U-20 kg category title beating Maibam Henthoibi of STTS in the final while Thokchom Yaisana of UTA and Karam Luwanglembi of IMRTA bagged a bronze medal apiece.
RK Kaira of UTA meanwhile sealed the U-22 kg category gold medal by getting better of Konjengbam Lingjelthoibi of MTA in the final. Moirangthem Bianca Lakhsmi of IMRTA and Soibam Thadoi Chanu of UTA meanwhile ended up with the bronze medals in the same category.
Pukhrambam Dayaluxmi of IMRTA sealed the U-24 kg category gold medal beating Thangjam Lanchenbi of PTA in the title clash as UTA’s N Ukalleibi and ASTA’s Th Freda settled for the bronze medals.
Laishram Janshileena of PTA meanwhile emerged the U-26 kg category winner as she defeated Sarangthem Lanthoi of UTA in the final.
Sanoujam Anamika of PTA carried forward the medal spree beating Tourangbam Liyamika of LFC in the U-29 kg category final as Naorem Lingjel of PTA defeated Sh Monisha of UTAfor the U-32 kg category title.
RK Thoihenbi of KTA meanwhile sealed the U-35 kg category title defeating Puyam Katrina of TKD Lairensajik while Yumnam Deepika of TTA Khangabok beat compatriot Ningthoujam Teresa for the U-38 kg category title.
UTA’s Okram Smriti Leima clinched the U-41 kg category title as she defeated Khoirom Jelly of NSA in the final. UTA’s N Sarina meanwhile defeated Ph Menaka of TSL of the title of U-47 kg category before Yumkham Nancy beat Takhellambam Velina in an all UTA title clash for the above 47 kg category.
