TKM contributing to skilled workforce in the country

IMPHAL, Jul 20: While the new and improved hybrid automobiles of the Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) Private Limited are attracting a wide range of customers, its technical training institute has emerged as a major contributor of skilled workforce in the country.
Established in 2007, the Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI) is located inside a massive 432 acre complex--the headquarters of the Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) Private Limited at Bidadi, Karnataka. Besides the TTTI, the complex houses manufacturing plants, an Ecozone, a Toyota Plaza and test tracks.
The Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) Private Limited is a joint venture between the Toyota Motor Corporation and the Kirloskar Group in India, focused on manufacturing and selling Toyota vehicles within the country.
The Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI) was established with the objective to provide free training and education to financially challenging students preferably from rural areas of Karnataka and make them employable.
In its endeavour to contribute to the Nation by developing skilled technicians, the institute offers a 3-year Residential Training Programme and Toyota Kaushalya--a 2-year Flexi MOU Training Programme for rural boys and girls of Karnataka.
The 3-year residential training programme includes skill training on automobile assembly, wielding, automobile paint etc. More than 1,400 students have completed the 3-year residential training programme and all of them have been given jobs, making TTTI a model institution in vocational training.
The Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI) is a certified institute under the Japan-India Institutes for Manufacturing (JIM) programme, a collaboration between the Governments of Japan and India.
It also offers its graduates the opportunity to take part in the All India Trade Test Examination for procuring the National Trade Certificate.
The Toyota Kaushalya Programme--the 2-year programme is a "Learn and Earn model" that offers on the job learning opportunities to rural boys and girls of Karnataka. It provides skill training related to manufacturing industries.
A total of 158 students were enrolled under the programme in the academic session 2024-25.
In addition to the courses offered at the TTTI, Toyota has launched the Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP) in association with Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and Diploma institutes across India.
T-TEP provides specialized training in automotive technology and service operations to students in ITIs and Diploma institutes.
It is a one-year programme that integrates classroom learning with on-the-job training at Toyota dealerships.
The 68th T-TEP was launched this year.
Aligned with the Government of India's Make In India initiative, the Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP) has benefited more than 14,000 students across India.
Further, one unique endeavour of the Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is its Toyota Environment Challenge 2050 that is aimed at achieving carbon neutrality and minimizing environmental impact by 2050.
The objectives include minimizing CO2 emissions from Toyota plants and facilities and efficient management of water. TKM utilizes 89.3% recycled water and rainwater harvesting for its production needs.
The Ecozone, measuring 25 acres inside the TKM Headquarters, a 17  educational theme parks.
TKM's multi-pathway approach offers a variety of sustainable mobility solutions rather than solely focusing on battery electric vehicles (BEVs). It offers a range of technologies including flex-fuel hybrids, plug-in hybrids, fuel cell vehicles, and lower-emission fuels, alongside BEVs.
The Lexus (BEV), Innova Hycross (SHEV), Innova Hycross (FFV-SHEV), Corolla (FFV), Prius(FFV-PHEV), Prius (PHEV) and Mirai (FCEV) are some of Toyota's automobiles that are popular among Indian customers.
The Toyota Innova Hycross Hybrid features Toyota's 5th generation self-charging strong hybrid electric system, combining a 2.0-litre TNGA gasoline engine with an electric motor. The vehicle has a mileage of 23.25 Km per litre.
