AMUCO questions
IMPHAL, Jul 20: Even though the Union Home Ministry on May 19 had directed States to identify illegal immigrants from Myanmar and Bangladesh, no visible actions have been taken up in Manipur to effect this directive, Pheiroijam Nando Luwang has asserted.
The president of the All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO) said this while speaking at a function held to honour blood donors at Sayol office at Singjamei Chingamakha today.
The Union Home Ministry's directive was very clear and it had asked all the States to identify illegal immigrants within one month. Therefore, the State must disclose the number of individuals it has verified and the number of illegal immigrants it detected following the directive, Nando said.
Even after more than two years, the Centre has failed to resolve the Manipur crisis. It is deliberately taking the time in the name of holding talks, Nando said.
While weapons have been recovered from the valley, the security forces are hardly seen recovering weapons from the hills. Under India's policies, the indigenous people have suffered, he said.
Meanwhile, the Centre has "hijacked" the State MLAs. With the illusion to form a Government and give them the Chief Minister's post, the Centre is controlling them and doing what it wants with the State, Nando asserted.
"Our forefathers fought the mighty British. However, the people of this generation have been reduced in their strength under the Government of India's policies," he added.
Manipur in the past was strong and self-reliant. Now, people are living in such a condition that they think they will suffer when rice import stops, Nando said.
The function at the Sayol office, Singjamei Chingamakha saw blood donors being honoured and given certificates.
The individuals honoured had donated blood during a voluntary blood donation camp held under the banner "Ima Leibakkidamak" on June 16. Sayol president Maisnam Bhudha and NRC president Thongam Ajit attended the event.
