Tapta granted pre-arrest bail

IMPHAL, Jul 20: Well known singer Loukrakpam Jayenta, popularly known as Tapta and Maibam Priyo (Tapta Macha) have been granted pre-arrest interim bail in connection with a zero FIR registered against them at Churachandpur police station allegedly for promoting enmity between different communities.
The Court of Session Judge Bishnupur granted the pre-arrest bail a few days back in response to two different anticipatory bail applications filed by Loukrakpam Jayenta alias Tapta (65) s/o L Bijay Singh of Naransena Mamang Leikai and Maibam Priyo alias Tapta Macha 31 s/o Sarat of Heirok Part III, Kabo Leikai staying at Haobam Marak Lourembam Leikai at present through their counsels Advocate M Anthony and Advocate Y Suresh respectively.
The application filed by Loukrakpam Jayenta alias Tapta mentioned that the petitioner is a professional singer and an artiste mainly singing about the currents issues of Manipur- political, social and others.
It further mentioned that petitioner is a peace loving citizen and he has never intended to provoke any community living in the State of Manipur and has never been involved in any criminal activities.
A team of Moirang police station came two/three times at the residence of the petitioner regarding a false complaint received from the Kuki community and a zero FIR from Churachandpur police station on the alleged charges of promoting enmity between different communities, and the petitioner Tapta has genuine apprehension that he may be arrested in the near future.
If he is arrested it will affect his career and reputation, said the counsel and prayed for granting pre-arrest/anticipatory bail
The second application filed by Maibam Priyo (Tapta Macha) mentioned that the petitioner is a professional singer and was earlier arrested by Imphal police station in May 2025 based on a false allegation related to a viral video and he was released on bail he on May 15.
The petitioner further submitted that he never intended to provoke any community in the present crisis but he has sung only cover songs in the interest of his fans and he has genuine apprehension that he may be arrested in the near future.
It also mentioned that the alleged viral video circulated on social media is not related to him and the said video has been edited by someone to spoil his image, the counsel said and prayed the Court to grant pre-arrested/anticipatory bail to Priyo.
The Court, on perusal of the case record, observed that the case would be considered after calling a report from the IO of the case. The Court then called a full report from the IO of the case to decide the applications filed by the petitioners for pre-arrest/anticipatory bail.
The Court ordered that no coercive action shall be taken up by the police against the petitioner namely Lourembam Jayenta (Tapta) and directed Jayenta that he shall appear before the investigating authority of Moirang police station for interrogation as and when required and he shall not leave the State of Manipur without the permission of the Court.
In connection with the anticipatory bail application of Maibam Priyo (Tapta Macha), the Court granted interim pre-arrest bail to the petitioner.
In the event of arrest of petitioner, he shall be released on bail on furnishing a bail of Rs 50,000 along with surety of like amount to the satisfaction of OC Moirang police station.
Court also directed Maibam Priyo not to leave India without the permission of the Court.
He must cooperate in the investigation and present himself to the investigation officer for interrogation as and when required by the IO, he shall not directly or indirectly make any inducement, threat or promise to any person.
