IMPHAL, Jul 21 : Langthabal Assembly Constituency MLA Karam Shyam has appealed to the public to support road and infrastructure development efforts, rather than politicizing them.
The MLA made the appeal while inspecting ongoing road repair work on the northern side of Manipur University leading to the Catholic School.
K Shyam stated that he refrains from politicizing road and infrastructure projects appealing to the public to support and encourage these development works.
He further stated that filing complaints on implementation of  developmental works would only hinder progress, rather than yielding benefits.
The MLA also said that 35 rigid pavements would be constructed on various roads in Langthabal, accompanied by the construction of concrete drains, ensuring quality control measures.
The MLA sought the local community's support for the project, noting that some lands might be impacted by the construction of rigid pavements and concrete drains.
He said that the project implemented in Langthabal is part of "Manipur Urban Road Drainage and Asset Management Improvement Project : Improvement of Road within Imphal City with Rigid Pavement including Concrete Lined Drains."
Stating that the Externally Aided Projects of PWD, Manipur, would oversee the project's implementation as the Project Management Unit, he added that AMRIL-IRCO Joint Ventures based in New Delhi is the executing agency responsible for the project in some portions of Langthabal.
The MLA expressed regret that some individuals had resorted to parking a truck in the middle of a major district road, from Meitei Lamkhai to Hiyangthang along National Highway 102, to protest the road's poor condition.
The MLA said that people could lodge complaints with the relevant authorities or consult with their local MLA about poor road conditions instead of blocking the road.
He emphasized that roadblocks are illegal and appealed to those involved to allow uninterrupted movement along the route.
K Shyam mentioned that work is  underway to repair the road with an investment of Rs  5.90 crore under CRF, although the tender process had caused some delays.
The MLA noted that protests such as road closure don't necessarily guarantee road repairs would be undertaken.
He stated that the road at Kakwa Tayenjam Leirak had remained unrepaired for the past four to five years as sanctioning of funds for road repairs was blocked due to certain complaints and litigation.
