IMPHAL, Jul 21 : Ngalangam Pheirei of Ukhrul and Phuritshabam Renuka of Imphal produced dominating wins to secure U-19 women’s 48 kg category semi-finals as the State Level Boxing Championships for U-15, U-17, U-19 and Elite categories kicked off today at Boxing Arena, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
Ngalangam Pheirei of Ukhrul defeated Lantham Anjuta Chanu of Kakching 5-0 via unanimous decision to move into the semi-finals as Ph Renuka sealed an RSC win against Luthanliu Gangmei of Tamenglong in another quarterfinal clash.
Sneha Thangjam of Imphal East had early moved into the semi-finals with a walkover victory against Moirangthem Alina of Thoubal.
Lamameilu Gangmei of Imphal East also progressed into the U-17 girls’ 48 kg category semi-finals as she edged out Ningthoujam Ashakiran of Imphal West via a 3-2 split decision.
Thingnam Malemnganbi of Kakching in the meantime overwhelmed Maku Phairong Binita of Thoubal 5-0 via unanimous decision to advance into the U-15 girls’52 kg category semi-final as Laishram Sara of Thoubal got the better of IW’s S Langlen 4-1 via split decision to enter U-15 girls’ 49 kg category semifinals.
Md Abdul Noor, Salam Chajers in U-19 men’s 55 kg semis
Imphal East’s Md Abdul Noor and Kakching’s Salam Chajers are into the semi-finals of the U-19 men’s 55 kg category semi-finals by posting contrasting quarterfinal victories today.
Md Abdul Noor won 3-2 via split decision against Chongtham Naoba of Imphal West today as Salam Chajers sealed a huge 5-0 unanimous decision victory against Matunmi Kashung of Ukhrul in another quarter final clash.
Kakching’s Yengkhom Abinash also made it to the U-17 boys’ 63 kg semi-finals with a walkover win against Hijam Nelson of Thoubal as Sandham Victor of Imphal East posted an RSC win against Laishram Jamesh of Thoubal and Khaidem Lanchenba of Kakching overcome Karung Albertson Kom of Chandel 3-2 in two U-17 boys’ 60 kg category quarterfinal bouts.
In a U-17 boys’ 54 kg quarterfinal clash, Kharibam Leishemba of Imphal East won 4-1 against Salam Diamond of Imphal West as Tongbram Manithoiba eased into the 50 kg category semi-finals with a 5-0 win via unanimous decision against Khundrakpam Martin of Imphal East.
In two U-17 boys’ 50 kg category quarterfinal bouts, Ningthoujam Akaba of Imphal East and Moibungkhongbam Lanchenba of Kakching progressed into the semi-finals by securing identical 5-0 unanimous decision victories respectively against Ningthoujam Nikhul of Bishnupur and Yangambam Srinivash of Thoubal.
In an U-17 boys’ 46 kg category quarterfinal bout, Maisnam Renson of Kakching notched up a 5-0 win against Laishram Renson of Imphal West via unanimous decision.
Earlier in the day, Saikhom Rojit of Thoubal made it to the U-17 boys’ 52 kg semi-final without breaking a sweat as he got a walkover win against Sapam Mayolsana of Imphal West before Konthoujam Raju of Imphal East sealed a commanding 4-1 split decision victory against Thongam Jackson in a quarterfinal clash of U-15 boys’ 61 kg category.
The weeklong championship organised by the Manipur Amateur Boxing Association was formally opened this afternoon in the presence of K Baruni, senior vice president as chief guest, MOA; N Rimotkumar, president MABA as functional president and L Ibomcha, Dronacharya awardee (boxing coach) as guest of honour.
