IMPHAL, Jul 21 : The Haomee Youth Front (HYF) has backed the indefinite bandh called by the Foothills Naga Coordinating Committee (FNCC) in opposition to Kuki movement in Naga areas and assured support to the FNCC in their future actions until their demands are met.
The Front, in a press release issued by its general secretary Kh Johnson, said that Manipur has a over 2,000-year history, with 25 indigenous communities coexisting peacefully while safeguarding the State's unity and integrity.
The HYF stated that the influx of illegal immigrants began in 1951 after Manipur's merger with India, and this unchecked influx has adversely affected the indigenous communities.
It claimed that the illegal immigrants have established several unauthorized villages and are significantly contributing to widespread deforestation, poppy cultivation, and the drug trade. These illegal immigrants are now demanding a separate land for themselves, which would involve disintegrating Manipur, and the indigenous communities are bearing the brunt of this, it said.
Further stating that thousands of indigenous Meeteis have been living like refugees in their own State since May 3, 2023, due to the onslaught by illegal immigrants, the Front alleged that these illegal immigrants continue to encroach on land, claiming it as their own, as part of their strategy to disintegrate Manipur. It went on to state that armed illegal immigrants, allegedly supported by the Indian Government, have been attacking indigenous communities living in the hill districts of Manipur. The Front stated that the indigenous people of Manipur who have been deceived by certain Kuki groups for long should endorse the indefinite blockade imposed by the Foothills Naga Coordinating Committee (FNCC) against Kuki movement.
