IMPHAL, July 21 : The BJP North East States meeting was held at Padma Bhavan in Guwahati yesterday in the absence of the BJP Manipur unit.
This absence has raised questions about whether it was due to internal issues within the Manipur unit or wasn't invited.
It is unclear if the BJP's National leadership deliberately excluded Manipur's representatives, despite the State's ongoing crisis.
The meeting, chaired by BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santosh, included Dr Sambit Patra, V Muraleedharan, Anil K Antony, and Kamakhya Prasad Tasa.
According to sources, the BJP Manipur unit wasn't invited, but attempts to confirm this from the party yielded no clear response.
According to some political analysts, the non-invitation of BJP Manipur representatives to the key meeting raises questions about whether the Centre is keeping the State unit only in name.
They also suggested that the BJP's Central leadership might have deliberately excluded the Manipur unit from the meeting, given the State's ongoing crisis and the potential questions surrounding the installation of a popular Government in Manipur, which has been under President's Rule since February 13 during the meeting.
The State BJP unit's absence from the meeting also raised questions about whether efforts to form a popular Government in Manipur would yield results, they said and added that this development doesn't bode well for Manipur.
It is also reported that BJP MLAs and party organizations have expressed concerns over their inability to form a Government, resolve the crisis, and their prospects in the 2027 Assembly election.
