IMPHAL, Jul 21: As announced a few days back, the Lecturers’ Association Manipur 2018 Batch has launched a pen-down strike from today demanding completion of their regularization process and regular payment of salaries.
One Th Ranjit teaching at TG Higher Secondary School said that 603 teachers were appointed in 2018 and their service was regularized by a Cabinet decision adopted on January 8, 2022.
However, the Lecturers have not been getting their due entitlements for over three years since April 1, 2023. As a result, the Lecturers have been facing a lot of difficulties.
The Lecturers talked with the Education Minister as well as the Director several times over the matter when there was a popular Government. They have also raised the same matter to the Governor after President’s Rule was imposed in the State, Ranjit said.
But the authorities concerned have not given a positive response till date except for asking the aggrieved teachers to wait, he said. Urging the Government to take up concrete steps to address the Lecturers’ grievances by July 26, he said that they would be constrained to take recourse to more intense modes of agitation if their appeal goes unheeded.
On the other hand, normal classes have been affected on account of the Lecturers’ pen-down strike.
TG Higher Secondary School Vice Principal Nongthombam Femina said that full classes could not be conducted at the school too because of the Lecturers’ strike.
Even though other teachers have been working hard to take the classes assigned to the Lecturers on strike, the situation is really dire, she said. She then appealed to the authority concerned to bring an understanding with the teachers on strike in the interest of students.
