IMPHAL, Jul 21: State Health Services Director Dr Chambo Gonmei has called for a reduction in the rate of cesarean delivery in Manipur to improve birth rate.
A cesarean section, also known as a C-section or cesarean delivery, is a surgical procedure used to deliver a baby by making an incision in the mother's abdomen and uterus.
Cesarean delivery has become a trend in Manipur and is a factor causing a decline in birth rate in Manipur, Gonmei said.
Dr Gonmei said this at the 1st State Level World Population Day, observed at the Indian Medical Association Hall at Lamphelpat today.
A woman who has undergone cesarean delivery may not be able to give birth to more than one or two children, Gonmei said.
The authorities concerned and every woman should promote and prefer normal birth. A normal delivery whenever possible is healthy and preferred, Gonmei said.
Observed under the theme "Healthy timing and spacing between pregnancy for planned parenthood", the event was organised by the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services, Manipur and State Health Society, National Health Mission, Manipur.
Family Welfare Services Director Dr N Hemanta-kumar, NHM Manipur State Mission Director Dr M Dinesh, Gynaecologist Dr Ch Nabakanta attended the event.
