Jr Boys’ NFC for Dr BC Roy Sultan, Krish on target as Manipur edge Odisha 2-1 for second win

IMPHAL, Jul 22 : Manipur lads extended their winning streak to two games in the Junior Boys’ National Football Championship for Dr BC Roy 2025-26 Tier I Group C by handing Odisha a 2-1 defeat at Sahibzada Fateh Singh Football Stadium in Amritsar, Punjab this evening.
Amom Krish who starred with four goals in Manipur’s 8-1 demolition of Jharkhand in the Group C opener, shone yet again by netting the winner after Khutheibam Sultan earned Manipur a slender 1-0 first half lead today.
Fresh from their comprehensive victory, the State lads enjoyed dominance and kept pressing their rivals using good use of both the flanks and the midfield until. Odisha lads also responded with some attacks but custodian under the bar Kamei Jenthuipou and defenders were upto the task to deny their rivals.
The exchange continued until Sultan connected to a floating ball from the centre towards the left flank, made a little run inside the box and lobbed the ball past the Odisha goalkeeper Uday Ekka to break the deadlock.
While Odisha staged a fightback, Manipur went on to look for more goals and had some close calls before entering into the break with a slender lead.
Relentless Odisha drew parity when Amam Lakra made the most of a deflection around the edge of the box to beat Manipur custodian from a powerful shot from outside the box in the 57th minute but the State lads did not give up and mounted their way back with a serious attack.
Manipur lads had their moment yet again in the 70th minute as Amom Krish paced himself to find a cross inside the box following a counter attack to stun the Odisha custodian.
Manipur held off Odisha charges in the later stage while making all efforts to further extend their lead and eventually saw out the game 2-1.
Notably Manipur demolished Jharkhand 8-1 in their Group opener at  GNDU Sports Complex courtesy of four goals from Amom Krish (6’, 72’, 79’,85’) and a goal apiece from Mutum Mangal (17’), Yumnam Sonamani (36’), Khutheibam Sultan (48’), and Meisnam Jojo (90’).
The consolation goal for Jharkhand was scored by Meshak Rahul Soy in the 63rd minute.
Manipur will play Karnataka in the final league match on July 24 at GNDU Sports Complex. The match starts at 4 pm.
