WBAM lauds Governor, YAS Director for positive assurances

The Wheelchair Basketball Association Manipur (WBAM)  has lauded the assurances given by Governor and the Director of the Youth Affairs and Sports to look into the demands the association has been making for the development and welfare of the para athletes in the State.
WBAM in a press release issued today praised Dr Mayengbam Veto, Director Youth Affairs and Sports, for his response and assurances during the inaugural programme of a 5-day non residential wheelchair bas-ketball camp held in prepa- ration for the 9th Wheelchair Basketball Championship to be held in September.
The association also exuded confidence that his office will help alleviate the difficulties and challenges faced by para athletes of the State, it said.
WBAM also expressed utmost happiness to Governor AK Bhalla for calling on a 10-member team of the association including 6 athletes yesterday and assuring to extend all possible assistance from his office in response to a memorandum containing a charter of demands.
The demands include development of a multipurpose indoor stadium to enable para athletes prepare and compete various sports disciplines; incentives, awards and reservations in job; regular conduct of para games; effective implementation of Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016; setting up of a specialised department for disabled, it said.
The association further expressed willingness to help produce many world class para athletes from Manipur as India looks forward to hosting the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Governor also assured the visiting team to assist the State team who will be participating in the 9th National Wheelchair Basketball Championship that will be held from September 1 to 10 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, it said.
 WBAM expressed its deep appreciation for their kind consideration and positive response, it said while expressing hope for expeditious realization of their demands as listed in the memorandum.
