IDP found dead

Moirang, Jul 22 : A 13-year-old student, who was an internally displaced person (IDP), was found dead near Saiton Bazar in Bishnupur today.
The young boy, a Class VI student, was reportedly found hanging from a gulmohar tree near his school's boarding facility at Lamjing Meira Maheikol School, close to Saiton Bazar under the jurisdiction of Phougakchao Ikhai police station in Bishnupur today.
He was an inmate at the boarding.
According to police, the deceased has been identified as Phuritsabam Santosh @ Piktru, s/o Phuritsabam Ningthem of Phougakchao Ikhai Awang Leikai Ward no 1 under Torbung Gram Panchayat.
It is reported that Santosh was taken to Kwakta Primary Health Centre (PHC) by the school authority, where the doctor declared him dead.
The corpse has been deposited at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) mortuary after a spot inquiry was conducted by the Forensic Science Manipur's Bishnupur team.
A case of unnatural death (UD) has been registered at Phougakchao Ikhai police station, and an investigation has been initiated.
Meanwhile, a Joint Action Committee (JAC) has been formed, suspecting foul play in the death with K Kegesana as its chairman.
Speaking to the media, JAC convenor Kh Jaya said that they suspect Santosh's death was not a suicide.
According to her, the JAC has adopted five resolutions, urging the authority to reveal the truth behind the death within five days, investigate the school authority, penalize those found responsible for Santosh's death, and provide adequate compensation to the deceased's family.
She stated that the family will not claim Santosh's body until their demands are met and added that they will launch an agitation if their demands are not fulfilled within five days.
Moirangthem Herojit, an assistant teacher at Lamjing Meira Maheikol School, described Santosh as an average student with good moral character.
Stating that Santosh didn't exhibit any abnormal behaviour last night, he added that the student was found hanging by their cook at around 4.26 am.
The teacher said that he rushed to the scene shortly after he was informed about the incident, lifted the student down and checked his heartbeat.
Saying that Santosh was taken to Kwakta PHC after informing the school's founder, he added that the doctor, however, declared the student dead on arrival.
He said that the school's boarding assigned morning duty to its students, and today was Santosh's group's turn.
Herojit mentioned that Santosh and two friends went out at 3.49 am, but his friends returned to their rooms, whereas Santosh was later found hanging by the boarding's cook.
