IMPHAL, Jul 23: In view of the apprehension of influx of illegal migrants into the State, specially due to the restive situation prevailing in neighbouring countries, all Deputy Commissioners have been asked to form district level task force for checking movement of illegal migrants.
All DCs and Superintendents of Police have been directed to keep a robust mechanism to prevent anyone from crossing into the State boundaries illegally and maintain utmost vigil at international, inter-State and inter-district boundaries so as to prevent any such movement.
Any such movement, if detected, should be immediately reported and biographic and biometric details of such persons be captured mandatorily, said a memorandum issued by Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Home) N Ashok Kumar today.
Illegal migrants should be put at secured designated locations for providing shelter and humanitarian support without allowing them to get mixed up or naturalised with local populace, it said.
The memorandum said that all illegal migrants should be deported after following due procedures.
It further directed all the DCs to constitute district level committees with members from the district police to conduct checking at all suspected locations and regular review of the same exercise.
DCs shall regularly monitor the exit-entry points under Border Pass System and tracing of defaulters/overstayed cases shall be done through district police, it said.
The memorandum also gave direction for establishment of district level task force for checking illegal migrants comprising Additional SP of the district as the team leader, an officer not below the rank of SDC representing the office of DC, representative of Assam Rifles/BSF/CRPF as desired by the team leader and biometric staff.
The step of the State Government comes close on the heels of the Government of Nagaland issuing an advisory to all Deputy Commissioners to remain vigilant and take all practive measures to prevent potential influx in the face of the ongoing drive against illegal immigrants in Assam.
