69th State Open Junior Badminton Championship begins

IMPHAL, Jul 23 : The 69th edition of the State Open Junior Badminton Championship got underway today at Manipur State Badminton Association’s multipurpose hall at DM University Campus.
The championship is organised by the Manipur State Badminton Association.
The opening day saw Yambem Luching of IEDBA and Khundrakpam Narjit of BDBA making their way to the U-9 Boys singles semi-finals.
Luching defeated BDBA’s Paikhomba Huidrom 21-7, 21-9 in a quarterfinal clash of the tournament today as  Khundrakpam Narjit Singh edged out IWDBA’s Vinson Soubam 21-16, 21-10 in another quarterfinal match.
U-13 Girls’ Singles
As many as 4 pre-quarterfinal matches of the U-13 Girls’ singles competition were also completed today.
Thingbaijam Bebina of BDBA eased past Lingjel Ningthoukhongjam of IWDBA 21-11, 21-5 in a pre-quarterfinal match before Jia Sanabam of IWDBA defeated Elangbam Thoihenbi Devi of KDBA 22-20, 24-22 in a hard fought match.
W Anjelina of IEDBA meanwhile eased  21-4, 21-9 past IWDBA’s Wangkhem Leena Devi as Moirangthem Jenelia Devi of IWDBA outlasted BDBA’s Sarungbam Romibala 21-19 21-14.
U-13 Boys Doubles
As many as four pairs of U-13 players made it to the quarterfinals today.
The BDBA pair of Hercules Laishram and Kelvin Thiyam  defeated IWDBA/IEDBA pair of Kongkham Mangal and Rajkumar Bhumikanta 15-21 22-20 21-14 to advance to the quarterfinals as the pair of Pukhrambam Jaychandra Singh and Riyosnganba Soubam defeated the IWDBA/IEDBA pair of  Asengyangba Nameirakpam and Telheiba Moirangthem 21-12 21-13 in another pre-quarterfinal clash.
Hidangbam Bishal Sharma and Longjam Biyas Meetei of BDBA in the meantime outlasted IEDBA/IWDBA pair of Chinglemba Yumnam and Vian Angom 21-7 21-9 as  Ahenthoi Leitanthem and Konjengbam Nongleikhomba overcame IEDBA’s pair of Potsangbam Devision Singh and Wangkheimayum Bidyabanta 21-15 19-21 21-17.
