IMPHAL, Jul 23 : The Federation of All Tribal Youth Clubs Manipur (FATYCM) has urged the Government to revert lands in Imphal East, Imphal West, and other valley districts that have been converted to agricultural land back to its original purpose as homestead land.
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club today, FATYCM general secretary Hopeson Machinao claimed that numerous household lands, approximately 600 in Imphal East and 500 in Imphal West, with similar cases in other valley districts, have been incorrectly recorded as agricultural land despite being used for residential purposes since 1970.
This discrepancy came to light during the computerization of land records, he said.
Stating that they have been deprived of benefits from Government schemes, loans, customary land rights, and legal recognition, he added that no action has been taken to resolve the issue despite submitting multiple complaints to relevant authorities.
He added that they lodged a complaint with the Governor on June 23 regarding the alleged discrepancies in land records.
He urged the Government to return these alleged homestead lands that have been converted to agricultural land back to its original purpose as homestead land.
