IMPHAL, Jul 23: The proscribed KCP has condoled the demise of legendary theatre director Ratan Thiyam.
“Today, Kangleipak and humanity bid farewell to one of our brightest guiding lights, Pabung Ratan Thiyam, the towering playwright, director, thinker and pioneer of modern theatre and also a wonderful example of an enlightened soul”, said a press release issued by KCP Politburo Standing Committee Chairman Ibungo Ngangom.
Globally acclaimed for his profound works that seamlessly blended “our National traditions” with universal themes, Pabung Ratan’s professional works and his unmatched contributions to the civilizational journey of Kangleipak are going to keep him alive for eternity.
As the founding father of Chorus Repertory Theatre in Imphal, his vision transformed a conflict-torn land into a beacon of artistic resilience, earning him the coveted Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and countless other accolades, it said.
“Today, his physical being may have left us but Pabung Ratan has achieved what every mortal secretly longs for, immortality. His voice will continue to echo in the whispers of the evergreen bamboo forests of Kangleipak and the theatrical stage, which he transformed into a superstructure of truth”, Ibungo Ngangom said.
The KCP also shares the profound grief of the bereaved family and also the people of Kangleipak, he added.
