IMPHAL, Jul 24 : In the midst of the ongoing eviction drive, Imphal West Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh has asserted that the State's building bye-laws does not instruct the public to encroach on Khasland/public infrastructure and build illegal structures.
He was speaking at the launch of a free computer training course cum book distribution ceremony held today at Diana Computer Centre, Changangei under Patsoi AC sponsored by RK Rameshwar, Managing Director, RK Fortune Developers Private Ltd.
Speaking as the chief guest, the Imphal West DC said that during the ongoing eviction drive carried out in different subdivisions of Imphal West, many buildings and other unauthorized structures constructed on public infrastructure like footpaths and Khasland have been dismantled.
Even old buildings and other structures have to be evicted if they are built illegally and disrupt public life.
The eviction drive was launched by the District Administration for public welfare and people should follow the rule of law, he asserted.
Saying that building bye-laws do not allow people to encroach on other's land, he maintained that according to these laws, one should construct one's buildings/structures on their own land, within their property lines.
Though many people lauded the Government's eviction drive, many shops closed their shutters when the drive reached their doorstep.
Terming it unfortunate, he urged the public to support such positive steps taken by the Government and voluntarily remove all unauthorized structures.
On another note, Mayanglambam Rajkumar said that a portal has been created for IDPs under the jurisdiction of District Administration Imphal West to foster transparency and efficiency in matters related to displaced folks.
Details of the IDPs will be available on the portal and data of every IDP is currently being processed, he said.
Additionally, steps are underway to digitalize the midday meal program, land revenue and education in consultation with the respective departments.
The Imphal West DC also highlighted the importance of computer knowledge in this age of information technology and lauded RK Rameshwar for sponsoring the free computer course.
Meanwhile, RK Rameshwar said that 50 students from underprivileged backgrounds will participate in the 3-month free training course on basic computer concepts.
Senior SDPO Laishram Khogen graced the event as the guest of honour.
