69th State Open Junior Badminton : Stage set for U-19 Boys singles quarterfinals

IMPHAL, Jul 24 : Lourembam Thoungam of Imphal West (IWDBA) has progressed into the quarterfinals of the U-19 Boys singles competition in the 69th State Open Junior Badminton Championship 2025 with a hardfought 2-1 sets comeback win against compatriot Neelachal Pheiroijam at MSBA hall at DM University Campus this evening.
Lourembam Thoungam went down in the first set to Neelachal but staged a remarkable comeback to seal a 17-21 21-14 21-17 win.
Earlier in the round of 32, Lourembam Thoungam eased 21-11, 21-10 past Athokpam Sanaren of Imphal East while Neelachal outlasted Th Kamaljit Singha of Jiribam 21-9,21-10 to make his place in the pre-quarterfinals.
In other pre-quarterfinal matches staged earlier in the day, Thokchom Hursh of IWDBA outlasted Jiribam’s (JDBA) Roshan Ingudam 21-14 21-16 as Pfoki Liruna of Senapati (SDBA) beat Bishnupur’s (BDBA) Mahesh Sanasam 21-7 21-7; Kalo Truman of SDBA outlasted BDBA’s Khomdram Netij Acceber 20-22 21-13 21-11; Rishav Ngangom of BDBA beat Kakching’s (KDBA) Sushanta Moirangthem 21-9 15-21 21-19; Kyoveio Vemai of SDBA outlasted TDBA’s Shaikhom Gung Singh 21-19 22-20; Martin Ingudam of BDBA beat IWDBA’s Chirom Bose Singh 21-19 21-15; Hemam Malemnganba Singh of BDBA eased past IWDBA’s Mongjam Vivek Meitei 21-14 21-10.
Earlier in the Round of 32 matches, Rishav Ngangom defeated IWDBA’s Elangbam Lamnganba Singh 21-11 21-16; Thokchom Hursh Singh outlasted BDBA’s Charles Babbage Oinam 21-7 21-5; Kyoveio Vemai saw off IWDBA’s Sapam Shyamchandra Singh 19-21 21-14 21-14; Martin Ingudam eased past IEDBA’s Shriyan Lairenmayum 21-13 21-7; Hemam Malemnganba Singh eased past KDBA’s Oken Moirangthem 21-8 21-8; Pfoki Liruna defeated IWDBA’s Shawn Sharma Bachaspatimayum 21-7 21-7; Kalo Truman sealed a walkover win against IWDBA’s Oinam Mangal.
U-19 Girls : Imphal West trio of Chanulembi Sapam, Angom Lanchenbi Devi and Laishram Anjelia Devi reach quarters
The day also saw Imphal West’s trio of Chanulembi Sapam, Angom Lanchenbi Devi and Laishram Anjelia Devi securing their places in the quarterfinals.
Chanulembi Sapam made it to the quarters with a walkover win against Mayanglambam Rebika Devi of KDBA before Angom Lanchenbi Devi prevailed 21-7 21-4 over compatriot Urbashi Thokchom and Laishram Anjelia Devi eased past TDBA’s Rekispa Soubam 21-10 21-8.
U-19 Boys Doubles
Meanwhile, five Round of 16 matches of the U-19 Boys Doubles competition were completed today.
The Imphal West duo of Borish Salam and Chirom Bose Singh reached the quarterfinals with a 21-7 21-9 win over JDBA pair of Th Kamaljit Singha and Th Sanju Singha as the Bishnupur and Senapati pair of Martin Ingudam and Pfoki Liruna combined well to beat Imphal West and Tamenglong pair of Neelachal Pheiroijam and Pouchundibou Newmai 21-17 16-21 21-18.
Senapati and Bishnupur pair of Kalo Truman and Khomdram Netij Acceber also won 21-10 21-15 against Thoubal and Bishnpur pair of Akash Akoijam and Charles Babbage Oinam as another Senapati and Bishnupur pair of Kyoveio Vemai and Rishav Ngangom got the better of IWDBA’s pair of Chintu Haobam and Moirangthem Kelvin Singh 21-1 21-6.
Imphal West’s duo of Mongjam Vivek Meitei and Sapam Shyamchandra Singh meanwhile outlasted IWDBA-IEDBA pair of Elangbam Lamnganba Singh and Sanaren Athokpam 21-12 21-10 to seal their place in the quarterfinals.
