‘Kukis will not know Manipur history’

IMPHAL, Jul 24: Reacting sharply to a statement made by an organisation called the Young Kuki on July 15, 2025, that “Nagas migrated to the Kuki Hills after separating from their Meetei brothers”, the Manipur Naga People’s Front (MNPF) has categorically stated that the Kukis will not know the details and true history of Manipur.
If the Kukis want to know the details and true history of Manipur, they must ask the indigenous Meetei and Naga people, said a press release issued by MNPF Secretary Publicity Thomas Numai.
The particular statement made by the Young Kuki can prove to be very dangerous for the Kuki people, it said.
The same statement is also an unmistakable proof that the so-called Kuki intellectuals have been spreading fabricated history and misleading their youngsters.
Misleading the Kuki youngsters with such fabricated and misleading narratives can prove to be disastrous to the future generations, it warned.
Since the violent crisis erupted on May 3, 2023, the MNPF has been working to restore peace and normalcy in the State.
The Kuki people, instead of welcoming the sincere efforts and initiatives taken up by different communities to bring peace in Manipur, have been peddling all kinds of false narratives and distorting the history of Manipur.
The Kuki people seem to be interpreting the peace efforts being made by different communities as a sign of weakness. This is rather vicious, the MNPF said.
Kukis have been making repeated attempts to distort the history of Manipur and peddling all kinds of false narratives through social media and newspapers.
“We did not respond to such false propaganda, not because we feared the Kukis but because we didn’t think it wise to argue with them (Kukis) over their unfounded claims”, it said.
Asking if there is any Kuki village at district or block headquarters which have more than 100 households, the MNPF asserted that most of the Kuki villages have just seven to 30 households.
On the contrary, there are Naga villages which have more than 1000 households.
On the average, 95 per cent of the Naga villages have more than 100 households while there are less than 100 households in the remaining 5 per cent, it said.
Kuki must stop peddling false narratives and all attempts to distort the history of Manipur. It would be wise for the Kukis to tread carefully so that the violent crisis of 1993 does not recur, the MNPF warned.
MNPF was set up to foster peaceful coexistence among all the communities living in Manipur.
Saying that the Kukis, standing behind the Government of India, have been working consistently to balkanise Manipur, the MNPF said that they will not remain silent to such sinister design of the Kukis
Kukis should stop spewing venom and making provocative statements against the indigenous people of Manipur. Focusing on exploring a solution to the protracted crisis would serve the interest of all communities, it added.
