IMPHAL, July 24 : Students of Wangoi Higher Secondary School staged a protest demonstration, demanding an end to the lecturers' pen-down strike that began on July 21.
The students urged authorities to address the teachers' demands to resume normal classes.
The protesting students highlighted that 26 teachers have joined the strike, severely impacting their classes.
Class XII students are particularly concerned about completing their syllabus, they said. Stating that the school has five Chemistry teachers but four of them have taken part in the strike while the remaining one is on sick leave, they added all three Home Science teachers of the school are also participating in the strike.
The students appealed to the authorities to understand their plight and take necessary steps to resolve the issue.
Placards with messages like "Resolve the issues of teachers to end their pen down strike" and "Let the students study without hindrance" were displayed during the protest among others. Meanwhile, the striking teachers also protested inside the school complex, citing their demand for regular employee salaries, which they claim have not been paid despite being regularized since April 2023.
The teachers expressed stress in managing their families and urged authorities to fulfil their demands.
