IMPHAL, Jul 25 : India’s most prestigious and oldest football tournament, Durand Cup makes a grand return on its 134th edition at the iconic Khuman Lampak Main Stadium, Imphal, Manipur. Organised by the Indian Army in collaboration with the Government of Manipur, the tournament is all set to deliver electrifying football action and bring together fans from across the region.
The return of the tournament holds added significance as it comes after the region was hit by severe floods last year. Khuman Lampak Stadium has been fully restored to top-notch condition. From the pitch to facilities and logistics, all aspects have been meticulously prepared to ensure a world-class experience for players and spectators alike.
This year’s Imphal leg will feature Group F, comprising four formidable teams viz-TRAU FC, NEROCA FC, Indian Navy Football Team, and Real Kashmir FC. The group stage will kick off on July 30 (Wednesday) with a highly anticipated derby between local heavyweights TRAU FC and NEROCA FC.
This year’s tournament promises to be even more competitive, with the champions and standout performers being honoured in style. The top three players viz recipients of the Golden Boot, Golden Glove, and Golden Ball, will each be awarded a brand-new SUV, marking one of the most prestigious recognitions in Indian football.
The enthusiasm among fans is already palpable, with the trophy tour and roadshow held on July 10, drawing significant crowds and media attention. With the success of the 2022 edition still fresh in memory, the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium is expected to once again become a hub of energy, pride, and celebration of the beautiful game.
