IMPHAL, Jul 26 : A joint team of Manipur Police, Central Armed Police Force, Army, and Assam Rifles recovered a large cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives including 90 weapons of different kinds and 728 rounds of ammuni-tion in five valley districts of Manipur.
This development comes days after a massive crackdown by security forces on July 15, where they recovered 86 weapons and 974 rounds of ammunition in Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur districts.
Briefing the media at Police Headquarters, IGP Zone-II K Kabib said that several operations were conducted in Imphal East, Imphal West, Kakching, Bishnupur, and Thoubal districts this morning based on specific intelligence inputs about concealed arms and ammunition in various locations.
The joint security forces launched coordinated operations simultaneously at mul- tiple sites in peripheral and suspected areas, he said and added that the operations led to the recovery of 90 weapons and 728 rounds of ammunition from multiple locations.
The recovered weapons, according to Kabib, include three AK rifles, one M16 rifle, 5 Insas rifles, 1 INSAS LMG, five SLR guns, seven 303 rifles, 20 pistols, four carbines, eight rifles, 20 single barrel/ bore action guns, three anti-riot guns, one lathode gun, three double barrel guns, six bolt action guns, three two-inch mortars and one local made pipe gun during the operations.
The senior police officer further stated that 21 hand grenades, 399 live rounds of 7.62 ammunition, 228 live rounds of 5.56 ammunition, 35 live rounds of 303 rifle, 23 live rounds of 9mm, six live rounds of .32, one high explosive mortar shell, nine tube launching, 21 assorted magazines , 24 wireless handsets and six IEDs were also recovered today.
Kabib said that the continued intelligence-led operations represent a major accomplishment for Manipur Police and security forces in their mission to restore peace, uphold public order, and safeguard citizens' lives and property.
Saying that the Police Department is committed to fostering a peaceful and secure Manipur, he urged the public to cooperate with the police and security forces.
Kabib also appealed to the public to promptly report any suspicious activity or information related to illegal arms to the nearest police station or its central control room.
Senior police officers will continue to work closely with security stakeholders to ensure sustained and focused operations aimed at restoring normalcy and maintaining public order, he added.
Notably, Arambai Tenggol had in the last week of February 2025 surrendered 246 weapons and ammunition, mortar guns, explosive materials, bulletproof vests, military boots, combat uniforms and helmets, among others.
Security forces had also recovered 203 weapons, ammunition, and explosives in hill districts, including Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi, Chandel, and Churachandpur, in a massive operation conducted on July 3-4.
