IMPHAL, Jul 26: The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has con- vened a public meeting at 11 am on July 29, 2025 at LNC Hotel, Kangpokpi.
The KZC has also invited all Kuki-Zo CSOs, intellectuals, politicians, tribe lea- ders and student leaders to the public meeting.
Although the agenda of the meeting has not been spelled out, it is likely to deliberate on the protracted crisis involving Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities, the Government of India’s push to open National Highways to all communities and relocation of the designated camps of Kuki-Zo militants under Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement.
Meanwhile, the United Kuki National Army (UKNA), which is not a signatory of the SoO agree- ment, has made it clear that the rescheduled public meeting may go ahead but it should stay clear off the issues of free movement and cessation of hostility.
The UKNA also said that the meeting must refrain from conceding to the diktats of the Government at the cost of Kuki-Zo people.
The meeting must also refrain from adopting any decision which may harm the interest of the Kuki-Zo people, it said.
The UKNA further warned that punitive action will be initiated if anyone defies its directives.
Earlier, a consultative meeting of Chin-Kuki-Zo groups was scheduled on July 19, 2025 at Churachandpur Peace Ground but it was cancelled following strong objection from the UKNA.
Even though organisers of the consultative meeting claimed that the meeting was aimed at adopting a collective decision after listening to all the voices of the Kuki-Zo people, the UKNA contended that the consultative meeting was ill-timed and smacked of enemy strategy.
