State observes Kargil Vijay Diwas Guv pays tribute to fallen heroes

Joining the rest of the Nation, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla led the State in observing the 26th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas at Palace Audi-torium, MSFDS, Palace Compound, Imphal.
On the occasion, the Governor honoured the seven brave soldiers from Manipur who made the ultimate sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil War, recognizing their contribution as a source of pride for the State and the Nation, said a press release issued by the Governor's Secretariat.
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has said that peace and normalcy are gradually returning to the strife-torn State, over a year after it was plunged into ethnic violence that has claimed more than 260 lives and displaced thousands.
To ensure the uninterrupted supply of essential commodities such as food and medicines, multiple checkpoints have been set up across the hill and valley districts and along National Highways. These efforts, combined with community outreach, are aimed at dismantling armed networks and restoring civil order, Bhalla said.
The Governor also highlighted steps being taken to address the humanitarian fallout of the conflict. “Several initiatives are underway to help displaced persons regain a sense of hope and rebuild their lives. The Government has initiated dialogue with civil society organisations from Meitei, Kuki-Zo, and Naga communities to facilitate voluntary resettlement of internally displaced people under inclusive and secure conditions,” he said.
He highlighted the profound significance of the day, marking 26 years since India's victory in the Kargil War and emphasized that the occasion serves as a solemn tribute to the brave soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces (IAF) who laid down their lives to defend the Nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Saying that Kargil Vijay Diwas is a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by the IAF in the face of external aggression, he pointed out that the courage, determination, and unwavering spirit displayed by Indian soldiers in the harsh and challenging conditions of the Kargil mountains remain a lasting symbol of patriotism and valour.
He also stressed on the importance of preserving and passing on the legacy of Kargil to future generations, ensuring that the stories of heroism and sacrifice continue to inspire the Nation. The observance of this day reinforces the values of unity, resilience, and National pride, he added. Director General of Police, Rajiv Singh, presided over the observance as president of the event.
The function was also attended by senior administrative, police, and military officers, along with armed forces personnel and veterans from Manipur who served in the Kargil War. (With inputs from The Statesman)
