Indian Army pays homage to martyrs

To mark the 26th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, the Indian Army conducted a series of solemn and comme-morative events across Mani- pur honouring the valiant heroes of Operation Vijay.
A wreath-laying ceremony was held at Shanti- van, Leimakhong Military Station where senior Army officials paid homage to the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the war.
Following the ceremony, a heartfelt interaction with 18 ex-servicemen from the Leimakhong area was organised to honour their contributions and strengthen the bond between serving personnel and veterans, said the Army in a statement.
Simultaneously, felicitation events took place in Senapati and Bishnupur districts to recognise Veer Naris, ex-servicemen and gallantry awardees.
At Senapati, 70 ex-servicemen were honoured, in- cluding five Honorary Captains and two Honorary Lieutenants along with Veer Naris and the next of kin of gallantry awardees. The event was attended by senior Army officers who paid tributes to the veterans and families of the fallen heroes. Notably, the next of kin of Kasbkho, son of Late Nk Saheni Lohri, Sena Medal recipient for gallantry in Operation Rakshak, and A Riao, son of Late Sep K Asuli, Vir Chakra awardee, for his actions in the 1999 Kargil War, were felicitated.
A similar commemorative function was also held at Okshongbung in Bishnupur, where the Army honoured the valour of five Kargil War heroes in the presence of 55 ex-servicemen and 35 students from L Dhananjay Memorial English School, Tronglaobi.
A wreath-laying ceremony at Ngarumphung Village, Imphal East district honoured Capt Keishing Clifford Nongrum, MVC (P) of 12 JAK LI whose unit was deployed in the Batalik sector during Operation Vijay.
Thirty ex-servicemen from Ukhrul and Imphal East districts, along with 120 schoolchildren and teachers, gathered to pay tribute to Capt Nongrum, native of Manipur.
The event concluded with a display by the Indian Army Pipe Band and the felicitation of ex-servicemen. The Indian Army’s tribute on this occasion reflects its unwavering commitment to honouring the legacy, sacrifices and bravery of its soldiers and their families. These solemn ceremonies ensure that the spirit of Operation Vijay endures in the hearts of the Nation, said the Army.
