Man convicted for sexually assaulting minor

IMPHAL, Jul 28: A Fast Track Special Court has convicted a 34-year-old man for sexually assaulting a minor girl.
The convict has been identified as Md Abdul Rahaman alias Ibomcha.
Rahaman was 22 when he committed the crime at a place under Moirang police station.
RK Memcha, Special Judge, Fast Track Special Court No 1, convicted Rahaman today under Section 4 of POCSO Act, 2012.
On November 15, 2013 at around 2.30 pm, the minor girl was returning home after dropping her friend off when the convict, Md Abdul Rahaman forcibly overpowered her by covering her mouth and took her inside his pan shop.
Rahaman then sexually assaulted her inside the pan shop and kept her wrongfully confined against her will. He later abandoned her at a cemetery at 7.30 pm, said a complaint that was filed by the father of the victim in 2013.
After registering a case under POCSO Act, Moirang police began the investigation.
The investigation revealed that Rahaman had kept the minor girl confined inside his pan shop by tying both her hands. He consumed alcohol in front of the victim and sexually assaulted her.
Rahaman promised the victim to marry her, but he later abandoned her at the cemetery.
The minor victim then went to a house and narrated her ordeal.
The Fast Track Court, after hearing the submissions of the prosecutor and defense counsel and on perusal of the materials on record, convicted Md Abdul Rahaman under Section 4 of POCSO Act, 2012.
The Court fixed July 30 for sentence hearing to announce the quantum of punishment.
