Dingo assures adequate urea fertilizers in Sekmai AC

IMPHAL, Jul 29 :Sekmai Assembly Constituency MLA H Dingo Singh has assured that there will be no shortage of urea fertilizers for farmers in his Constituency.
He made the announcement during a urea fertilizer distribution programme cum training programme held at Loitang Khunou in Sekmai AC, organized in collaboration with the Agriculture Department.
During the function, the MLA noted that villages in the foothill areas of Sekmai were severely impacted by the crisis in Manipur that began on May 3, 2023.
He mentioned that paddy farms in Sekmai were abandoned due to the crisis.
Saying that agricultural activities have resumed as the situation improves, the MLA assured that there will be no shortage of urea fertilizers for farmers in his Constituency.
He appealed to the farmers to work extra hard to ensure a bountiful harvest, and added that the Government has already distributed 21 truckloads of urea fertilizers to farmers in Sekmai at a subsidised rate.
Saying that he, however, doesn't support the use of chemical fertilizers, he appealed to the farmers to go for organic fertilizers as much as possible to ensure sustainable and healthier farming practices.
He also encouraged the farmers to adopt crop rotation by planting other crops after harvesting rice to ensure maximum utilization and productivity of their paddy land.
Agriculture Director Peter Salam also attended the function.
The Director said that the Agriculture Department has pro-actively taken initiatives to guarantee a steady supply of fertilizers and support the farming community's needs.
He mentioned that the Government has so far distributed 1.50 lakh urea bags for the current Kharif season at a subsidized rate of Rs 270 per bag.
Additionally, he stated that necessary steps have been taken to distribute 30,000 more urea bags, with the Government planning to distribute a total of 2 lakh urea bags to farmers.
During the programme, black gram seeds, groundnut seeds, water pumps (electric), pump sprayers etc were also distributed free of cost.
