Geo-mapping done ‘illegally’

IMPHAL, Jul 29 : The Chingkhan Yonyer Village Authority has alleged that geo-mapping of Chingkhan Yonyer village, Machi Block, Tengnoupal district was carried out illegally and indiscreetly by certain individuals with vested interest from Khoibu village.
According to a press release issued by Chingkhan Yonyer Village authority, it has come to light that an illegal geo-mapping activity was carried out indiscreetly on May 16, 2022, reportedly by misleading and misinforming some officials from the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Tengnoupal.
The geo-mapping was done without the knowledge or consent of the rightful landowners—the Chingkhan Yonyer Village Authority, it said.
Recognizing the seriousness of this unauthorized activity, the then Village Authority of Chingkhan Yonyer formally reported the matter to the Deputy Commissioner of Tengnoupal on May 25, 2022, urging for immediate corrective measures.
Regrettably, no appropriate action was taken by the concerned authorities, despite the potential risks such oversight could pose to communal harmony and social order, it said.
This issue is of grave concern not only to the residents of Chingkhan Yonyer and Khoibu villages but also to neighbouring communities. Such unlawful activities, instigated by anti-social elements, threaten to provoke future disputes and social unrest, as they falsely designate land ownership contrary to historical and ancestral claims, the village authority said.
The suspicion regarding the illegal geo-mapping has now been confirmed. It is evident that the mapping was carried out without proper consultation or the informed consent of Chingkhan Yonyer village and adjacent landowners.
The wrongful demarcation in favour of Khoibu village is not only erroneous but also unjust, it asserted.
“We reiterate our earnest appeal to the Deputy Commissioner of Tengnoupal to act with fairness and foresight by initiating immediate corrective action. A re-mapping of the geo-tagging process must be undertaken at the earliest, specifically within the boundaries of Khoibu village, Chingkhan Yonyer village and Lairam Phungka village, with prior notice and participation of the concerned village authorities”, it said.
Failure to address this issue in a timely and transparent manner may lead to long-term communal tensions, sowing seeds of discord among future generations, it said.
“We urge the authorities to uphold justice and ensure peace and harmony in the region by resolving this matter responsibly”, the Chingkhan Yonyer Village Authority added.
