VETO crowned champions of 72nd Senior Men’s State Kabaddi C’ship

IMPHAL, Jul 29 : VETO, Laphupat Tera were crowned champions of the 72nd Senior Men’s State Kabaddi Championship hosted by the Khonghampat Mayai Leikai Youth Pioneer Club (KYPC) under the aegis of the Manipur State Kabaddi Association.
VETO defeated Ima Kalika, Wabagai by 42-36 points in the final today to seal the top honour of the 10-team league cum knock-out tournament.
In the semi-final staged earlier today, VETO defeated ALUC, Khurai Angom Leikai by 41-30 points to reach the final as Ima Kalika sealed a hardfought 34-33 win against AMDASCAM in the other semi-final match to complete the final line up.
Notably VETO topped Group A with four straight victories . They beat hosts KYPC 50-58 in a keenly contested group opener before defeating SLYO, Tekcham 30-25 for the second win; MYC 43-35 points for the third win and Ima Kalika and  30-26 to complete the league stage sweep.
S Ashananda of VETO was adjudged best player of the championship as M Menson of Ima Kalika who made the most super raid was declared best raider.
Samir of AMDASCAM, Lilong Atoukhong was in the meantime declared best defender.
The championship was formally closed with a valedictory function attended by local body representatives, club officials and spectators from in and around the Khonghampat area.
