IMPHAL, Jul 29: The students of Thanga Higher Secondary School have urged the Chief Secretary and the Education Department to send adequate teachers and improve the school's infrastructure.
The school at present is lacking teachers in several subjects and has no Science laboratory, said students, speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club today.
The students sought to meet the Chief Secretary today, but weren't given an appointment, they said.
Oinam Gyaneshori, a Class XI Science student, said the regular classes of the current academic session started three months ago, but the classes for Computer Science subject have not yet started.
The only teacher for the Computer Science subject has been transferred to another school, and as such, there is no teacher for the subject, she said.
The school also lacks adequate teachers for Physics, Economics and Home Science, and there are no teachers for practical classes of Thang-Ta discipline, she said.
Further, three teachers of Biology, Chemistry and Meitei Mayek have joined a pen down stir of teachers, and as such, there have been no classes for these subjects, she added.
Besides lacking adequate teachers, the school has no proper infrastructure, she said.
Gyaneshori said the school has no laboratory for Science and there have been no practical classes.
The school has a library, but it has no books. The Education Department and relevant authorities must address the issues facing the school, she said.
The authorities must bring back the Computer Science teacher or send a replacement by August 1, she said, seeking the attention of the Chief Secretary.
