COAS takes stock of security situation in Manipur

IMPHAL, Jul 30 : Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi undertook a day-long visit to Manipur to review the operational preparedness of the troops, called on Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and witnessed the inaugural match of the Durand Cup today.
The COAS assessed the security situation prevailing in Manipur and operational readiness of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles formations deployed in the State. He lauded their high standards of professionalism, resilience, and dedication under challenging circumstances.
He was also briefed on the ground situation and ongoing initiatives aimed at ensuring peace and security.
Further, General Dwivedi called on Governor Bhalla along with the Army Commander, Eastern Command, General Officer Commanding 3 Corps, and other senior Army officials at Raj Bhavan, Imphal and discussed matters pertaining to security and development.
Governor Bhalla extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Army leadership on the successful execution of Operation Sindoor, and commended the Indian Army for its exemplary professionalism, commitment, and tireless efforts in ensuring the security and stability of the region, said a press release issued by the Governor's Secretariat.
The meeting also included discussions on the commencement of the Durand Cup, one of Asia’s oldest and most prestigious football tournaments.
The COAS expressed his appreciation to Governor Bhalla and the Government of Manipur for their continued support and active facilitation in the successful organisation of the event.
He later witnessed the inaugural match of Group F of the 134th edition of the Durand Cup at Khuman Lampak Stadium, marking the tournament’s return to Imphal after two years.
The ceremony preceding the match featured a vibrant cultural programme and military displays, showcasing Manipur’s rich heritage and the pride of the Armed Forces.
The COAS interacted with players and officials of the local favourites NEROCA FC and TRAU FC before the match.
The evening also featured aerial and ground displays by Army Aviation, band displays, and traditional performances.
General Dwivedi was accompanied by GOC-in-C, Eastern Command and GOC, Spear Corps during his visit.
