Govt urges FNCC to lift restrictions

IMPHAL, Jul 30 : The Government has urged the Foothill Naga Coordination Committee (FNCC) to lift its indefinite shutdown, which restricts the movement of Kuki-Zo community members in Naga-inhabited foothill areas.
The FNCC had initiated the shutdown on July 18, citing concerns over threats to Naga ancestral land, identity, and security.
A bulletin issued by the Police Control Room late last night said that a meeting between senior police officials and FNCC leaders discussed the Committee's demands and grievances.
The police assured the FNCC during the meeting that genuine concerns would be examined seriously and addressed timely, said PCR.
The Government urged FNCC to lift the shutdown so as to resolve the matter amicably through dialogues and cooperation.
The PCR, meanwhile, stated that a cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from Songpi village under Churachandpur police yesterday.
The recovered items include four 9mm pistols along with three magazines, six single barrel rifles, one M79 grenade launcher and one .22 rifle along with a magazine.
Security forces also recovered a variety of weapons from Nobap Makhong areas, Chanbirok hill under Sekmai police station including one airgun, one local made lathode type gun, one local made mortar, four pompi guns mounted with bipods, two shell type IEDs, three IEDs fitted in PVC pipe, three empty magazines of .303 LMG, two empty magazines of 7.62 LMG and some protective gears.
The police further stated that sixty seven challans were issued to motor vehicle offenders amounting Rs 1,32,000 yesterday.
On July 26, three drug traffickers were arrested from L Kanan Village in Churachandpur along with heroin weighing around 2.95 Kg, the Poilce Control Room said and added that arrested people have been identified as Ginmang Haokip (40) of Hengkot Village, Churachandpur, Seikholen (45) of Kipgen Veng, Churachandpur and Lalzui Vaiphei (52) of Ngathal Village Churachandpur.
