IMPHAL, Jul 30: Ashem Tarunakumari, Additional Session Judge Fast Track Court Crime Against Women Manipur has sentenced a 45-year-old convict identified as Shanglakpam Bishorjit Sharma to 8 years rigorous imprisonment for rape in 2009.
Shanglakpam Bishorjit Sharma was convicted by the same Court on July 28 under Section 376 IPC (Rape)  and 354 IPC (Assault or criminal force to a women with intent to outrage her modesty).
Shanglakpam Bishorjit Sharma alias Bedha hails from Lamshang Mayai Leikai. He was produced before the Court today from Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa for sentence hearing.
Notably, Bishorjit had sexually assaulted the woman victim on August 21 and September 15, 2009 somewhere under the jurisdiction of Lamshang police station. While sentencing the convict to undergo 8 years RI, the Court also recommended a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the woman victim.
