IMPHAL, Jul 31: There may be discrepancies in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Manipur which must be investigated by the authorities concerned, said MP Dr Bimol Akoijam today.
He said this in a statement his office issued to the media today after issues concerning the Jal Jeevan Mission in Manipur were raised in the Parliament today.
The Lok Sabha MP, in the Parliament today, inquired the Jal Shakti Minister about the progress of the JJM in Manipur.
Responding to the unstarred question, the Minister of State for Jal Shakti, V Somanna said at present, 3,59,459 (79.59 percent) rural households in Manipur have tap water connections.
Only 25,920 (5.74 percent) rural households in Manipur had tap water connections at the start of the JJM on August 15, 2019.
Since then, around 3,33,539 additional rural households have been provided with tap water connections. Thus, as on July 28, 2025, out of 4,51,619 rural households in Manipur, the provision of tap water supply is available to 3,59,459 (79.59 percent) rural households, said the Minister of State for Jal Shakti.
Meanwhile, the statement from the office of MP Dr Bimol said "there appears to be a gap between official data and ground realities."
"This issue was previously flagged during a meeting of the DISHA Committee, where several individuals reported that their names appeared as beneficiaries on the official JJM website but no tap water connection had been received in reality," said the statement.
Such discrepancies highlight a potential lapse in the monitoring and implementation [of the JJM]. The authorities concerned should investigate the claims thoroughly and take necessary action to ensure that public welfare schemes are implemented with transparency, accuracy, and accountability, said Dr Bimol.
Public should remain aware and report any inconsistencies they come across so that the benefits of National schemes genuinely reach those they are intended for, said the MP.
