IMPHAL, Jul 31 : Wangoi AC MLA Khuraijam Loken has stated that the BJP MLAs in Manipur need to contemplate on their inability to form a popular Government and the imposition of President's Rule (PR), which is likely to be extended for another six months.
Notably, the Lok Sabha has approved a resolution to extend PR in Manipur with effect from August 13, and the resolution is now pending approval from the Rajya Sabha.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, Loken who is a NPP MLA said that forming a popular Government near the end of the 12th State Assembly's tenure would be futile, as it would have limited time to undertake meaningful developmental work.
He noted that the people of Manipur desire a popular Government and that the BJP has the necessary numbers to form one.
With the next State Assembly election scheduled for 2027 and only one and a half years left in the current Assembly, Loken urged the BJP MLAs to consider the people's sentiment and act accordingly.
Warning that delaying the formation of a popular Government would not yield any benefits, Loken urged the BJP MLAs to contemplate the situation while there is still time and take necessary action.
