Manipur joins in observing Natl Space Day

Imphal, Jul 31 (DIPR/OSR): The 2nd National Space Day Celebration 2025 was observed today at Hotel Imphal, North AOC, in a grand event jointly organized by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), Manipur Remote Sensing Applications Centre (MARSAC), and the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Manipur.
The theme of today’s observation was “Aryabhatta to Gaganyaan: Ancient wisdom to infinite possibilities”.
The event aimed to inspire young minds and promote awareness about space science, technology, and its applications, particularly in the context of national development and regional growth.
The celebration witnessed active participation from students, teachers, researchers, and delegates representing various academic and scientific communities.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr RK Radhesana Devi said that National Space Day is celebrated to commemorate the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the moon.
Through this event, students will be able to learn of the numerous ways in which space based applications are beneficial for various practical and developmental purposes on Earth.
Elaborating on this, she said that space reports and space technology are essential to execute projects undertaken by the State in the field of infrastructure planning, natural resource management, urban planning, agriculture and disaster preparedness.
The event was graced by several dignitaries, including O Nodiachand Singh, Director, MARSAC; Dr Kishorjit Singh, Registrar, IIIT Manipur; Dr N Raghu Meitei, Associate Director, Directorate of Technology Development and Innovation (DTDI), ISRO Headquarters; M Somorjit Singh, Head, GSD, NESAC, Department of Space and Dr Victor Saikhom, Scientist-SF, NESAC, Department of Space.
In the second session of the program, Dr N Raghu Meitei, Associate Director, Directorate of Technology Development and Innovation (DTDI), ISRO Headquarters delivered a talk on Indian Space Programmes with special emphasis on Moon Missions.
Meanwhile M Somorjit Singh, Head, GSD, NESAC, delivered a presentation on "Space Applications for Societal Benefit".
The session also featured an audio-visual show, a space exhibition, and interactions with scientists from ISRO and NESAC.
Students from various educational institutions participated in a quiz competition on space science. Special sessions were conducted to highlight the use of space-based technology for sustainable development in the North Eastern Region.
Distinguished guests, officials from various departments, teachers, and students from different schools also attended the event, making it a memorable occasion dedicated to science and innovation.
