Eviction drive launched at Tbl

THOUBAL, Jul 31 : As carried out in other districts of Manipur, Thoubal District Administration has launched an eviction drive to remove illegal structures with the help of Thoubal District Police personnel.
The move follows an eviction notice issued by Thoubal Deputy Commissioner Hannah Kahmei which instructed people to remove all unauthorized structures encroaching on NH-102, estate land and other roads in the district by July 30.
On the first day of the eviction drive, illegal meat shops and other private structures on either side of the road at Thoubal Melaground Yairipok Lamkhai were dismantled using a JCB.
At Athokpam Arong Thongkhong, concrete pillars were demolished and buildings encroaching on Government Khas land opposite District Hospital Thoubal including pharmacies and shops were dismantled.
The eviction drive which was carried out from this morning till evening witnessed active participation of Thoubal DC Hannah Kahmei, two Addl SPs of the District Police, SDOs, officials of the Thoubal Municipal Council and other related departments.
Interestingly, a market shed built by the local urban body was also torn down at today's eviction drive.
It is worth noting that during a meeting held at the conference hall of DC Thoubal on July 22, Additional District Magistrate A Amarjit had urged people of the district to dismantle all illegal encroachments by July 30 while cautioning that the District Administration will launch an eviction drive the next day.
Further warning them of possible fines, the Additional District Magistrate had also sought the cooperation of the public in this Government initiative.
